I'll just post a few of my favourites. I will definitely try this way of integrating social and science next year.

The Four Seasons
Grade one science can be so...boring. There is just something exciting about chemical reactions and gravity, forces and electricity(none of which is in my curriculum for grade one). But this year I decided to teach daily and seasonal changes within the context of First Nations and Metis teachings. We compared a scientific view of the seasons including the rotation and revolution of the Earth to the traditional legends and stories of our First nations peoples. My favourite part of this unit was the Metis inspired artwork done by my students to represent a season of their choice. I really was impressed with the way they viewed our inspiration piece, The Giving Tree by Leah Dorion

Welcome to the Blog by Province at http://teachingisagift.blogspot.ca. I am so glad you linked up! There are so many teachers out there who can learn from your experiences. The lesson your wrote about in this post is amazing!
On a personal note, I have just spent the last half hour reading about your husband's disease and I'm sure that it barely begins to touch on the reality of your challenges. Keep blogging...it's good therapy (at least it is for me) and we are all good readers:) I take care of a mother with Alzheimer's and a brother who has brain cancer. For me blogging is my outlet...I'm glad to have you part of my blogging world.

Thank you so much Sidney. I have learned so much from the teaching blogs of others. I will look forward to following your blog and learning from you too. It sounds like we have a lot in common.
